The Egami Score is a clinical calculator used to predict the unresponsiveness to Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy in patients with Kawasaki disease. Kawasaki disease is a rare childhood illness that affects the blood vessels and can lead to serious complications, such as heart disease. The Egami Score is particularly useful in identifying patients who are at high risk of being unresponsive to IVIG therapy, which is the standard treatment for Kawasaki disease. This allows clinicians to consider alternative or additional treatments early in the disease course. The score is calculated based on several factors including age, days of illness, platelet count, and levels of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and sodium. The Egami Score is not applicable to patients without Kawasaki disease or those who have already started IVIG therapy.
