The RAPID score, or Radiographic Acetabular Pathology and Instability Diagnosis score, is a clinical calculator used in the evaluation of patients with suspected acetabular chondrolabral disruption, a condition often associated with hip pain and instability. This scoring system is particularly applicable to young, active individuals who may have sustained a hip injury or those with hip dysplasia.
The RAPID score utilizes a combination of patient history, physical examination findings, and radiographic features to predict the likelihood of acetabular chondrolabral disruption. It includes factors such as age, activity level, presence of hip pain, and specific radiographic findings.
The clinical utility of the RAPID score lies in its ability to aid clinicians in making an early diagnosis, guiding treatment decisions, and potentially avoiding unnecessary invasive procedures. It can also be used to monitor disease progression and response to treatment.
Exclusion criteria for the use of the RAPID score may include patients with previous hip surgery, those with inflammatory or infectious hip conditions, and those with hip conditions not related to acetabular chondrolabral disruption, such as osteoarthritis.
